SL/R230: R230 2003 500SL Trunk Light Fuse
I am a fairly long time SL owner, having owned a nice 1991 300SL for 12 years, about three years ago I traded for a rare 2003 500SL that only had 17,000 miles. I drive it about once a week, and now have 32,000 miles, and it is in nearly new condition.
The only issue I have is a small one; the trunk light (not the flashing green one, just the light that should come on when the trunk is open) does not work. I changed the bulb, to no avail. My book takes me to the tool kit, to find the fuse chart. The tool kit appeared never used (new gloves included), and the fuse chart simply says "electronic" when referring to the trunk light. No location, etc...I have no other issues, and simply need someone with experience in locating this fuse, to change it out and hopefully remedy the trunk light.
For those that are interested, I've found this car well advanced from the old removeable hard top of my 300SL, however, I have replaced the valve cover gaskets as there were leaks obvious, as well as one shock and an ABC flush following that. I love the car, but the achilles heel seems to be the potential of the ABC to be easily ignored by the uninformed owner, and I have read issues of water leaks, followed by electrical problems, etc. which I do not have. I have been tempted to trade for a Porsche 911, but I just go drive this beautiful machine and get over it. The ride is too good in the car, with respectable performance. The comfort is worth a lot. I've been a career pilot, and like for things to work as advertised, and this car certainly does.
Sorry for the lengthy post, and any help with the trunk light fuse would be helpful.
