DO NEVER EVER order a key based on what MB dealers think as free slots
many people lose their keys and have them made somewhere where it's not registered in the Dealers database
so they see slot 4 free, but its not
you lost your money
You MUST have someone look into your ingition switch to see what slots a free before ordering !
and if you want keyless go, the free slot must be 1-5
if this is not the case
go to the dealer and have them free old slots with a WORKSHOP KEY
Wanted to revive this please. When you install the newer module can you order two keys A230 766 03 06 9999 from dealer that will be able you can program to newer module? Will any of the older ignition keys or key cards work with new module?

yes, the new key and slot used has to be assigned to Keyless go module slot 1 or 2
and older keys work card NOT

yes
A ignition switch can take 8 keys, two of them keyless
if no more slots available, you can go to the dealer to reset those slots with a workshop key
you can also shut slots down, in case of lost key or stolen

First post shows chrome key and black key in pic. Can a chrome key be compatible with the new module for 2003 sl for keyless go or dies it have to be a older black key?
From my understanding, the chrome keys are not compatible with the 03 ignition. When I ordered the A230 766 03 06 9999 from the dealer, I received the older black version.
From your previous question, the old "key-card" will not work with the new Keyless-Go-Module. It's not backwards compatible. That's the whole point of replacing the KGM, to get a module that works with the newer key frequency, since they no longer manufacture the old key card. Also, I can attest that my original Key FOB still works in the ignition switch. Not only do I now have the Keyless Go working, but in essence I have a usable spare.
everything can be cloned with a programmer, problem is opening them and having the skills

read this chip out and copy it to new used car, or unsolder and transfer done
I did this 4 years ago for fun
I did convert to keyless go in key, did not want that ridiculous card
So I took the task to attempt to read the chip from the card (bought from eBay, not from my S 55) and I don't think the 8-pin chip you circled in red is the IC chip.
The chip is a Maxim Integrated MAX409BESA 135 Analog Op Amp. I think the IC chip is a Chip-On-Board type in the center with the black epoxy blob over it.
Are you sure you read from the card from the Op-Amp?
