05 SL600 Transmission question
I assume I have the 722.6 and that trans can be drained/filled through the fill tube and bottom filling attachment is not needed. At advice on fluid?

That is correct. Here is the WIS doc for the fluid/filter change:
http://benzbits.com/722_6/FluidFilterChange.pdf
It's for the W203/W209, but it's essentially the same on the R230. Note that you probably do not have a torque converter drain, so you''l only get about 4 quarts out with the pan drop. Because of that, you might consider also doing a flush to get all the fluid changed:
http://benzbits.com/722_6/TransmissionFlush.pdf
I would do the flush first, then follow with the standard pan-drop and fluid/filter change. This means you'll need an additional +/-4 quarts of fluid after the 14 quarts required for the flush. Here are the approved fluids:

Are you in the USA? If so, Shell ATF-134 is usually the easiest and least expensive option. There are plenty of ebay/Amazon sellers of it, or, you may have luck getting it by the case (or two) from your local Shell oil distributor.
Oh, and you will need a dipstick with the temperature markings to properly set the level given the indicated temperature (you can measure the temp on the pan with an infrared thermometer). Ebay/Amazon are good sources for a dipstick.

Hey fellas reading the procedure as done by mercy me am I correct in understanding this as follows: When adding 5l the trans after the pan drop the trans is now 1liter overfilled (approx) and then you pump 3 liters out and you are now 2 liters underfilled? I gather one does not want to go more than 2 liters low at any time. I assume a 4 liter pan drop. Also is the total capacity of the trans about ?? liters. Thanks for any info. I want to get on this soon. Really good pictures in there mercy me.
