SL/R230: 2008 Mercedes Benz SL55 changing battery, is there anything special I need to do
If the starter battery, once the hood is popped and open just close the doors, leave the car unlocked, move any keyless-go keys well away from the car and then change it like any other battery.
This should prevent any red battery warnings from popping up on the gauge cluster after the swap as some have experienced.
When you change the consumer/trunk battery, you MIGHT have to "normalize" the window and seat positions again. In my experience with several battery disconnects during electrical projects this is not always the case.
Normalizing the seats just means moving every position of the seat to is maximum limit and holding it for a few seconds (both directions)
For the windows, put them down (the small back ones as well by tapping down switch each side) and then pull and hold up the switches with top up for a few seconds until they close. Let go, then pull and hold again for the back windows.
good luck

You don't need to remove the rear battery if doing the front, just pull the positive wire.
Reconnect front first, then rear.
