SL/R230: Roasted wires/Battery control module
new here and looking for a low mileage 500SL
Found one, but it has damaged wiring around the Battery control module.
What to expect?
Did quite some electric repairs in the past, but the SL is not an average car.....
One thing is sure, the control unit has to be exchanged as well as both the relays and some serious wiring repairs are needed.
Cable/wire isolation has melted or is burned, inner copper looks roasted near the connectors of the control unit.
Heat has also made the soft inner boot covering melt away just above the control module and relays.
Questions:
1) Could water Ingres have caused this?
2) Is it to be expected that other modules suffered from the power break down?
3) Could a bad battery or sticky relay cause this?
Glad to hear some advise, especially from those who struggled with this section of the cars electric circuit before.
Kind regards from Holland.
