SL65 ///AMG & SL600 engine number location ?

Time to renew my registration on my car and need to know where the engine number is on my SL65. Mechanics might start looking in the wrong places and pull off the wrong covers to find it (damaging them) so need to know where is the number so I can show them directly myself

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Do they need to actually see the engraved engine serial number, or would a "data card" printout suffice? There are several ways to get it via the VIN. EPC can do this, and I know a few online sites:

https://www.vindecoderz.com
https://www.datamb.com/
http://www.auto-parts.spb.ru/cat/cat...&client=dr2000 (you will probably need a translator for this one)

In Australia they physically need to see it , especially with such an expensive vehicle as many people have been known to change numbers off stolen motors or vins (vehicles) Thanks for that site interesting

2005 S600
I recently bought a 2005 S600. To register in Adelaide, motor rego require to sight the engine number or a phot of it in the car. F Wann (authorised Mercedes mechanics) have had the vehicle for a week sporadically looking for the engine number. They tell me it could be in on of two locations and is difficult to find. Was your engine number where you expected it?
