Audio AUX Inputs

Hi,

I bought a used SL500 and have a question about the audio setup. In my glove department box, I have an old iPod interface and a USB connection. I thought that the standard setup was an 3.5mm audio jack? Is this an upgrade?

EDIT: Sorry forgot to mention that I am in Canada and that this is a 2003

Thanks!

If this is the factory iPod interface, it replaces the AUX input. The only thing I question is that I thought the iPod kit only worked with the MOST fiber system, which was introduced for MY2005. What does your head unit look like? Does it have two round knobs on the bottom left and right, or is the bottom right control a D-pad? If it's a D-pad, then you have a MOST radio (most likely) the factory iPod kit. In that case, you can remove the iPod kit to resort the AUX input, but you'll need to actual input. It might be stuffed behind the glove box, or it might have been removed. However, a better solution might be to buy a "dongle" that plugs into the 30-pin iPod connector and converts it to a Bluetooth receiver.

I have the two round knobs... I was thinking I might try the USB connection with my phone or get a converter for the 30-pin cable.

Thanks!

In that case, the iPod interface is not a factory part. I am pretty sure MBZ only offered it for the MY2005+ with the "facelift" that switched from D2B to MOST fiber. It sounds like your car has an aftermarket iPod interface installed, and actually, some of those do have AUX inputs. Years ago, I installed a Dension Ice Link in my W163 ML and it had both iPod and AUX inputs. It replaced the CD changer, and used the CD changer controls to select playlists and tracks. If you can find the "box" that the iPod cable connects to, you may find an AUX input port there. If not, then as you said, try the USB or a 30-pin adapter.

I still also have the CD changer behind the drivers seat so I will play around with it some more and try to figure it out. I figured it was after market.

Thanks again!

The CD player is most likely a factory installation
