SL/R230: Need Opinion on SBC Failure
#26
That is what concerns me. I did phone MB head-office and they have no recollection of 25 year warranties or this recall. I don't understand why Mercedes Benz would provide 25 year recall warranty in one country and not another.

Why couldn't Mercedes come up with a warning the unit is going to time out in so many miles...?
I agree. It's not like HAL is going to say "just a moment...just a moment, m5zealot...I've just picked up a fault in the SBC unit. It's going to 100% failure within seventy-two miles."

Technically, MBZ is a different company in each country. Warranties are different and so are government regulations. Here in the USA, we have a 48 month/50K mile bumper to bumper warranty that covers everything except wear and tear items and schedule maintenance (years ago, it actually covered schedule maintenance). We also have other government-required warranties related to emissions. If there is a major safety issue, our government can require a recall or extended warranty. In this case, I think MBUSA just decided to be preemptive and extend the warrant before being required to do so by the government here.
