air vent odor when you first turn it on
03 SL500, When I start the car, the first air that comes out of the vents smells like an old basement. I replaced the filters, but I would guess that when you start the car it isn't using recycled air. I have spayed a few types of odor control product into the air intake under the hood, but is still smells. is there a spot the gunk might accumulate to cause this? and can I take the vent louvers off and clean the duct work some how? maybe a long round scrub brush? it has under 50K miles and is in great shape, Just smells funky.

Some cars are bad about this. There is a commercial grade anti-fungal that can be sprayed directly on the evaporator that will help, but you have to (literally) drill a hole into the duct to get the spray in there. Also, I don't know where other than the dealer you can get the spray.
One thing you might try is running the heat on high for 30 minutes or so. That can sometimes dry out the moisture that is growing the mold.
