SL/R230: Iphone music

Aftermarket Device
What would you suggest? I can use my Iphone via the Bluetooth in the console, but no music. What do I need to buy to do so? I just purchased a 2007 550 SL and would like to play my Ipod or Iphone playlists thru the speakers.
Thanks for any info you can provide.

bluetooth streaming different pathIt goes without saying that getting around the Bose Comand unit is almost insurmountable problem.
8 speakers all over the place, fiber optic amp, dash integration, difficult to replace speaker(2 ohms wtf?) drivers & locations, and worst of all mediocre highs and dismal lows.
It would seem impossible to make a worse situation, so I thought perhaps a work around !
I took my pair of polk audio full range ported bookshelf speakers and set them behind the seats
and brought my home amp w bluetooth and listened ...WOW most of what is missing I can now hear !
Of course I can't drive around wuth a home receiver so I looked for some car amps with bluetooth
and this puppy is small but has plenty of power & bluetooth interface.
this is the amp:

these are the speakers https://www.bestbuy.com/site/polk-au...E&gclsrc=aw.ds
This should absolutely rock ! and comes in under 200$ for amp & speakers
If we have any audio engineers or audiophiles would like some thoughts, however having
tested these speakers in the car they fill up the space very very well with crisp highs and much more pronounced
bass and you can still answer the phone and have the comand gps and radio.

Does the car have a 30-pin iPod interface? If so, you can get one of these:

If not, then there are some aftermarket solutions from companies like mCar, Viseeo, Gromm, MOBridge and others. These tap into the fiber optic system and emulate a CD changer.

I plugged the Moker BT adapter into the Mercedes Media Interface jack located in the armrest and this allows you to play iPhone (I use Amazon music) through the original console by selecting Aux.

The COMAND unit was updated to NTG 2.5 for MY2009. It has a plug in the center console with a 30-pin iPod connector and AUX input. The MY2005-MY2008 used NTG 2 which technically can have an AUX input, but it does not exist on the R230 version.

iphone connectivity
Hi …… I'm an 08' SL350 R230 newbie trying to work out how to connect my iPhone to play downloaded Spotify music. On checking the centre console I have the connector shown in the picture below and was wondering if anyone out there can give me some advice on how I hook things up either via a suitable cable that connects to this port, or via an aftermarket interface. The car also has Bluetooth and an SD card slot. Any advice would be most welcome.

You need the MMI cable. There are versions with 30-pin iPod connections and AUX input. If you get the iPod connector, there is a company called CarPro that makes a Bluetooth adapter to plug into ti for wireless streaming.

350 SL, R230 - 300 SL, R129 - 1964 Corvette Sting Ray Sport Coupe - Porsche 911 Twin Turbo (sold)
Perhaps the most easy and cheapest way to be able to play, use your iPhone, have touch screen, lidsten to Spotify, search the net, listen to DAB plus radio is to go for an "comand" - head unit from Seicane Android 8.1 after all?
I suppose that now it is probably Android 9.0
The unit on the picture is for a 2002 - 2005 Mercedes SL, R230

Hi Rob,
Sorry for the delay in responding ……. I can find the Aux setting ok, but haven't managed to hook things up yet. To be fair, I've only had a quick go and got frustrated when it didn't work off the bat, and since I only use the car occasionally I haven't got back to it yet …… I'll be having a go this weekend so will let you know.
How about you, did you get it hooked up and working?
Cheers
Ronnie

The easiest and least expensive option is to get an FM Bluetooth transmitter. Around $35, plug into your cigarette lighter and it connects to your phone and will allow you to play your music through the radio on a low FM frequency. You can also make and answer phone calls hands free and they have a port to charge your phone if you need to built into it. It is the best $35 I ever spent. Be sure to turn up the volume on your phone when using it.

If you have the MY2008"facelift" car, with the NTG2.5 COMAND radio, it has an MMI connector in the center console (see post #7 above). You can get a cable that plugs into that and has both an Apple 30-pin connector and a 2.5mm stereo AUX connector. If you have an earlier unit, then options are an FM transmitter, or an aftermarket device that plugs into the fiber optic system and replaces the external CD changer and emulates it with iPod, AUX, USB and Bluetooth inputs.
