Question How to top-up convertible pump reservoir on 2003 SL 500.

My Indy topped up my convertible pump reservoir a little bit the other day, and said it would need to "soak in" or something. Cool. I let it "soak in" for a day, ha, and then the top worked, for about three times. Problem now, is it is in the down position, ha, and I don't want to tow it or drive it to my indy, now that I know WHAT it is, and I don't want the car to get caught in a thunder shower of course with the top down.

Now, I just want o know HOW to do it, ha. I have some Pentosin fluid, I just can't seem to find a YouTube video or a how to guide in the fourms. Argh.

I would like to fix them ASAP, ha, so I can put the dang top up of course. even my folded roof is semi-open inside the trunk now of course, as I was trying to remove groceries from the car. I can see the pump now, and I can now se the fluid is "low", however, I don't know how to refill it, or to add some at least.

I have a couple of SL's now, the one I am referring to is my 2003 SL 500.

Any and all help will be tremendously appreciated!

Thank You in advance!

-Dave

First let the system depressurize. May take an hour Take a syringe with out a needle draw up some correct fluid. Open both ports on top of the pump with Allen wrench. They are staggered. The one closer to the front is the fill port place the syringe down on the fill port and ever so slowly press down on the plunger. You will get the feel of how fast you can go but it is slow.

Be patient!

You have a leak somewhere in th system. Most likely the lock cylinder. I did a thread on how to change the offending o ring. There is a newer one available that more closely resembles the original.

Good luck

Awesome! Thank You!

I will go find some Allen wrenches, and get a new "oral medicine" syringe from the drug store and get to work in a bit.

So, the most "rear" port needs to be opened to let air escape type of thing? And next question, ha, is "the plunger" the white button looking thing on the right hand side of the two ports? So, am I just "loosening the allen-head "bolts", or removing them while filling?

I've had that car over 8 years, and never had an issue, until today of course. Argh! LOL

THANK YOU for the advice! I appreciate it!

Uh oh. So that helped some ...

So, I went to "close" the roof, after semi-matching the fluid level in my OTHER R230, with the roof down, and now ... I am stuck in an even worse situation. crap. crap. crap. Ha. So, I can't access the pump now now, what I beleive is the manual way of "emergency closing it".

My current situation with my lid ....

I may have to go to church and pray for a miracle tomorrow ...

Here's the manual close instructions:

And for the flaps:

I'll bet you front lock cylinder (in the roof) is leaking. You'll probably find all the fluid you added in the last few days in the roof panel.

I'll

top headache

Mine got sluggish when adding a bit of fluid. Might be air in lines. After a couple of very slow closings it got working perfectly and has remained so. Get your wife to press the switch and you try to pull it up some from the back. Maybe you can get it closed if the leak is not great It is just a wild guess by me but it is simple to try.
Keep us posted.
