R230 front bumper side marker light removal

I have searched the R230 forum and came up empty on this subject. I am looking to replace my orange front bumper side marker lights with smoked out versions and I am looking for the process. I’m still waiting on my repair disk from Luxenberg I bought on eBay . I’m guessing I’m going to have to go in at the front wheel and open the wheel well again like I did when I replaced the fog lights, but does anyone have any advice or tricks on how to get the light out easily, if that’s possible (haha). It’s gonna have to wait a while as I slammed my thumb in the door jam today and my entire tip of my thumb is black and blue and it is throbbing like no tomorrow but I’d at least like to get an idea of what I have to do. Thanks

You can get the driver marker off in about 15 seconds, try this. (I haven't tried it yet on the passenger side)

I purchased a set of clear LED markers for my 2011 SL550, and they were very easy to install.

I haven't gone through the Swedish vehicle inspection yet, so I put the original amber markers back on, but I will provide a DIY guide with pictures in a few weeks.

You didn't specify if you had the newer facelift version R230 or not, but for the newer models all you have to do is remove the black plastic around the fog lights (4 torx screws), then remove the fog light housing (a few larger torx screws), and then you have access to the space 'behind' the side markers. Unscrew the small bulb housing, I don't remember if it was a 90-180 degree turn, and then push the tabs towards each other to remove the black side marker back.

It's easy to understand how they are mounted if you already have the new replacement side markers. It's a 15 minute job for both sides.

Are the clear markers you bought the ones with the built-in LEDs, or does it have a socket for a bulb like OEM? I'd like to have a clear version of the OEM for the facelift bumper - I don't care for the LED style.

I agree with you, Rudeney. A clear side marker just like the original amber would be great, but I have only found two options.

I purchased this one:

But I'm thinking that maybe this one will look better?

Thank you! That second one is exactly what I want! I must be really "challenged" when it comes to eBay searches because i never found that one.
