Any 'smart' charger will work. I use Battery Tender Junior (0.75 Amp-Hour), or the CTek (MB Equal, I forget the model number) on my SL55 and E350 and KTM and John Deere.
Get one with the 2 prong SAE quick disconnect so you can plug in/out quickly on all vehicles.
Only charge the SL rear battery, unless you kill the front for some odd reason. It won't hurt to hook up the front starter battery, but it will not discharge on it's own like the rear (in)convenience battery.
Hook them up whenever you don't plan to drive for 3 days.

I have not lost any settings to radio or seats that I recall.
You do have to reset the windows (all the way down and up with hold for 3 seconds), and the steering wheel ESP sensor (crank wheel full right to left a couple times with engine running), but that is all that is needed.

DO NOT use any sort of "memory saver" when swapping batteries. These can damage the electronics in the car. The things you might need to reset after disconnecting the batteries are the auto-up windows, the steering position sensor, and the sound settings on the radio (though not presets). These things are all covered int he owner's manual.
