Looking for a 2008 SL550
Hello Everyone
I have always loved the SL's. Now I got the green light to buy one, within a budget😁.
Is there possible to have the VIN # checked to find out if it within the dreadful batch affected by the sprocket issue? I know that from Aug 2008 it's pretty safe to buy them.
The VIN# is: WDBSK71F28F137642.
I had 2 SLK's over the years and I know that someone could tell from the VIN# if the 350 or 550 engine series were affected.

I just came across this thread and am not familiar with this “sprocket” issue. I tried doing a search but found nothing. Might someone here have a link? Am I to understand that all 2007 & some 2008 SL550’s have this problem? Thanks.

About half the MY2007 SL550's will be in the range for potential failure. MY2008 cars will not be an issue. Here's the official TSB :

Scenario #1 is the real problem is the repair cost is extremely high. This was rectified by mid-MY2007 builds. Scenarios #2 and #3 go through mid-MY2009, but are are no big deal as parts are less than $100 and an hour or two of labor.
