BATTERY CONTROL MODULE

Where, specifically, is the BATTERY CONTROL MODULE located on 2003 SL500? Is it behind the trunk liner in the right rear wheel well area? thanks.

I believe that is correct. There is a thread about sulpher smell in the trunk that has photos and other good information.

Yep, located on the vertical portion of the right wheel arch inside the trunk. You need to put the trunk lid in the service mode then remove all of the trunk liner on the right side. Once you have the liners taken out, may want to consider cutting a hole in the right side liner to give direct access to the BCM.

Also, be careful of the trunk liner sensor switch (the sensor that lets you put your roof down). The connector is very fragile and mine broke one of the wires.
