Not to chrome
I don't think wheels should be chromed at all. Chromed wheels equals low class and poor taste, but that is my opinion and that is what you asked for. I am sure someone will post saying that chrome wheels look great.

I'm not normally a chrome fan...especially on cars like Lexus with the "gold kit". My 98 SL500 has chromed wheels...just came that way (i didn't order it), and I've come to like the look a lot. Yesterday, I was at the dealer for some service and I saw several '03 SLs. One had sport and chrome. I have to admit, it was sharp. The SL i have on order doesn't have chrome, and I probably won't have it done.

i don't usually like chrome wheels either
but if you chrome wheels with big gaps between the spokes, it looks awesome.
if you chrome wheels that take up a lot of space, it looks awfully cheap.
and you have to chrome wheels that are big.

Chrome is passe.
Thank god we do not have the chromed cookie cutter gauges and controls on the dashboard, responsible for inflicting bodily injury and death to driver and passengers in numerous accidents during the "chrome everything epidemic" in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Cleaning chrome is a waste of time, unless you've got nothing better to do.

My wife likes chrome rims...."car jewelry". I like it depending on the rims and color of the car. They are no more difficult to take care of than painted rims if you do it correctly. Brake pad choice and polish/protectant has more to do with how clean rims will look/stay than finish....unless you go with a color that is complimentary to brake dust.

Same as body-piercing, gold-front teeth, tattoos...
You pays your money and takes your choice.

here's my 2 cents.. i think chrome rims look really good on a black car..i have seen them on other cars too but black cars seem to wear the chrome better than other colors....
now there are chrome rims that just look plane nasty ..specially the ones that look like fans.....but since you are planning on getting your stock rims chromed... i think it will look very nice... just keep em clean

2008 CLS 63 & 2005 SL55
Had chrome AMG wheels on my Black '98 SL500. Looked really sharp I thought.
However, after having several flat tires repaired, the chrome would start to adhere to the tires and cause them to pull small chunks of rubber off of the tire when the tire was removed from the rim. All in all the tire then would have a slow leak in it. This happened to two flats on two separate occasions, with Mich. pilot sports. I then bought all brand new Mich. Sports ........ but the slow leaks around the rims never could be fixed!!
So, NO MORE CHROME RIMS for me.
I traded the '98 SL500 in for the '02 CLK55 AMG Cabrio, with AMG regular wheels .......... as of now ......... no problems.
