P0025 2008 SL550
Driving back home and the dreaded CEL came on, stopped by Autozone and got it scanned and it issued this code. P0025 Exhaust Camshaft Position Timing - Over-Ratarded (Bank 2). Have any of had this issue and how was it resolved? I also noticed that Sport mode was engaged at the moment.
Thanks in advance. |
Check out this guy's issue. It seems the same as yours.
Good luck! https://mbworld.org/forums/m-class-w...ixed-pics.html |

Good luck! https://mbworld.org/forums/m-class-w...ixed-pics.html The only thing is, that’s for a different vehicle, I’m not sure if it applies. |
Replace Camshaft Adjuster Magnet
I'm pretty sure you need a camshaft adjuster magnet. I had the same thing go out on my '07, but on bank 1 (RH from drivers position). Fortunately, they are very inexpensive and very easy to install.
Visit this discussion for some great information from a few that understand this better. https://mbworld.org/forums/sl-class-...rror-code.html |

Go ahead and replace all four. It; scenario #2 in this TSB:
http://benzbits.com/BalanceShaftTSB.pdf You will probably need to remove the oil cooler to replace the left bank exhaust so you'll need a gasket for that (plus you'll want to drain a bit of coolant so you don;t make a mess). Othewise, this is an easy job with just a bit of wrenching. |

I’ve already ordered two, do you know if mine is on the passenger side, based on the description? I really need to do this myself. Thanks!

The reason you have to replace any of them is that there was a manufacturing defect that causes them to fail. I think what happens is that oil gets inside of them and shorts them out. I guess you could replace them as they fail, but you can get all four for about $100, and other than the one behind the oil cooler, it takes just a few minutes to swap them, so why not just do them so you have no worries about future failures?

On a side note, I drove the car this morning to work, it’s a 40 mile drive and once I arrived at work, the CEL is no longer displayed, maybe it’s a fluke, still replacing them before my appointment with the dealership on Saturday for alignment. |
Update!
I went ahead and replaced the two by the drivers side, I think that the car drives fine, since replacing them, or maybe it’s in my head 🤣. I’ll be ordering two more for the passenger side. I read that it is advisable to also replace the “Camshaft Position Sensor”, when replacing the Camshaft Adjuster Magnets. Is that so? Amazon suggested those and I ordered two but my mechanic advices me not to do it, maybe it might require reprogramming. So, I still have them... Don’t want to rock the boat 😀

No, the sensors rarely fail. And they are costly - I think $200+ each. BTW, here's a diagram showing which solenoid throws which OBDII error. This is from the perspective of standing in front of the engine and looking back at the car. But, as I said, you really should replace all four as the original parts used were defective.

That's probably fake. Amazon and eBay are so full of fake Bosch parts, I;d never consider buying there. The OE part is over $150:
