I just got the dipstick of the eBay and it looks like it’s quite a bit longer than expected.
Can someone please give me the length of the original MB dipstick for 05 SL500.

The length does not make a difference. The end of the tool is important.

All my other dipsticks slide in pleace much easier. I don’t want to damage anything by forcing it in.
I know this specific one supposed to be a touch longer as per the item description.
The question is how long is the touch? 😀

Looks like I’ll have to purchase one from the local dealer and compare.

Apparently there isn’t one offered by MB for the 05 SL500.
How about the after market? Anybody knows where I can get one properly sized?

Remove the oil pan, measure the depth of the pan, insert the dipstick down the vent tube and measure how far it needs to extend to the bottom of the pan. Just a thought, not sure if it's that simple.
