Luggage Assist Problems

Good Morning all first post after looking around this forum for a while now,

I wonder if some one could help, my roof was down earlier when I was doing spot of shopping, opened the boot went to put the things under the roof it was a little tight and as I went to pull it back out and put them in the front as I did this the roof opened up about six inches. Great I thought, pressed the boot assist button to close it back down and nothing happened. Upon further investigation the plug was out the button (nice easy fix I thought) but even when I plugged it back in no joy. In the end I’ve parked it up in my parents garage with the boot still open. Any ideas? I did try and disconnect the battery and then reconnect it but no luck, I have checked voltage on the plug that goes into this switch but there’s nothing, I have also pushed the boot lid all the way up to make sure the micro switch is activated.

Is is there a way to get it back in the boot as I’m very confident the roof will then close as the roof has always opened and closed faultlessly, this is the first time I have ever used the luggage assist feature since buying the car, what is strange I never pressed the button to activate it must of detected a small amount of pressure when loading the boot and opened up.

Thanks Again

Dave.

Are there any warning chimes? The only time the roof would not recede back down for me was if the cargo cover was not fully engaged and the micro switch set. Additionally, my trunk struts are weak and unless I’m physically holding the trunk lid fully open, warning chimes let me know about it.

My my guess is either the luggage cover is not fully seated or a micoswitch has gone bad where the cover latches.

Thanks for the reply Sean, the luggage cover appears to be seated ok and I have tried to wiggle it about, it’s never given me a problem before, the boot lid micro switch has been tested ok and when I lower the boot a little I get a chime so I think it’s seeing it as open ok, the luggage assist switch doesn’t light up either?

This suggests that the roof controller is not seeing that the trunk lid's rotary latch is in the open position.

Check the latch. Open it if it is closed; if it is open and still no joy, then I would remove the connector to the switch and investigate. If you arrive at the point and need help, report back.

Sorry bob not thinking, is this the latch in the boot lid that secures it when closed? If so do you open it with a screwdriver or with the boot handle? Thanks again.

EDITED - I WAS WRONG
I had the same question about that rotary latch. Looking at google images, that would be the trunk latch. First of all, watch out for your fingers. If you can stick the stem of a screwdriver in there sideways it would be open. Close it by pushing the screwdriver in. It should enthusiastically react to your push, but perhaps you have no air pressure left (I’m too much of a novice to know). Open it with the handle, if need be using the metal key. The lock should fully open.
So, you go from there.
DON’T FORGET the latch must be fully open before closing the trunk lid.

Update, this afternoon I manual released the roof via the pump as per the instructions on here, I stowed it back in the boot and then retightened the pump, closed the boot and then the roof went back up, I tested it a few times and it works perfectly, I have left the luggage assist button disconnected and will get it looked into properly on her next service. Very happy as I now have a functioning roof.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to help me.

Regards

Dave.
