2009 SL550 command replacement.
I'm thinking on installing a kenwood DNX 996 head unit. Is there some kind of adaptor I need to use the stock amp? Car uses HK speakers.
Ive found the adaptor for the older models with bose but not HK. Also can someone tell me where the amp is? If there is no adaptor can someone recommend a replacement amp. Not looking for killer sound just the same as what I have.
Thanks

You need an interface that will convert an electrical music signal to an optical one compatible with the MOST standard. Here's one. Apparently you want "Version 2".
On early cars the Bose amplifier is located beneath the storage compartment behind the left seat. I presume the Harmon-Kardon amp is there as well.
I think it makes sense to keep the stock amp and speakers.
A "killer" car stereo system compares poorly to a good home music system. To me, listening to music in a car is analogous to watching a movie on a laptop PC instead of a 65" HDTV with Dolby surround sound. It doesn't seem to make sense to spend money on a laptop for watching movies, and it doesn't seem to make sense to spend money trying to upgrade the sound system of an R230.
