Glove compartment light help needed

Noticed the glove compartment light on 2004 SL 500 did not work. Took it our, found two connections unplugged, light bulb burned out. Replaced bulb, plugged in both connections, light came on. Installed but light is always on now. What a complicated set up it is. Need some help and guidance.

On closer inspection my car may be missing some kind of pushrod or something that goes in when the glove box is closed.

Further observation, I'll bet the right side of the switch has something to do with the alarm system which I don't want to work anyway.

Glove box light fixed!

I know, I know fixing a glove box light is pretty "piddly". But I've been working from the big things to the little things. At any rate I fixed the glove box light. The missing part was called a "lever" and is part # 230 689 00 61. $37 at my local MB dealer (found it for less online.) The curled down part goes toward the back of the car and snaps in to place just behind the light switch itself.

Glove box light.

Trying to resurrect this thread. I think I was having a parasitic current draw since the lever in my glovebox was not turning off the light. Looking at the glovebox light housing, there are two connectors going to it; 1) to power the glovebox light, and 2) another one looks to be going to a micro switch. Someone mentioned that they thought it was for the alarm. Does anyone know for sure? And does that microswitch need to be connected?

any help would be appreciated!

It looks like there are two switches. One controls the light directly, the other one is for the alarm. The black/green wire provides 12V from the passenger SAM to power the light, the red/brown is the alarm switch back to the SAM. They should also have a brown ground wire common to both switches. If you don't want to fix the light switch, I would just remove the bulb.
