SL/R230: Knocking Noise from driver side

Knocking Noise from driver side
There's a knocking noise coming and going from what sounds like the drivers side area. It usually appears after the car has warmed up and been driven for about 10+ minutes or so. You'll hear it for 10-15 seconds and it goes away.
When parked, the same thing happens- it's not a constant noise- if I remember correctly, the noise drains out/goes away when you rev the car.
I put my ear as close as I can to the PS pump but it doesn't seem like it's coming from there. The car has strutmasters installed if that helps any
It's definitely not the engine area...you hear it more when you put your ear up to the driver side strut area hunched down next to the wheel than from the top of the PS pump looking down
