transmission oil

Hello, I would like to know how many miles or km you have changed the oil in the gearbox and if someone has changed it I would like to know the spare parts needed and what type of oil our SL carries. Thank you

The factory called for a one-time change of fluid and filter at c. 40,000 miles. Some suggest changing it at the same interval thereafter.

If you go to the various part-supplier websites you can determine what oil to use.

NO LONGER ACTIVE
Like the 722.6 5-speed, the 722.9 7-speed was initially sold as "sealed for life" with not changes needed. After some 722.6's started failing over 100K miles, MBZ published an informal letter to dealers stating that it was "acceptable" for them to change fluid in the 722.6 eat 70K miles if the customer felt it was necessary. This was double-speak for, "Yes, we know there are problems, the transmission really isn't sealed for, and you should change its fluid and filter it at 70K miles, but we don't want to admit that lest we have to deal with a bunch of law suits."

The 722.9 started having issues much earlier. This was due to a different supplier for the torque converter clutches which would dirty the fluid very quickly. MBZ did issue a bulletin revising the serive interval to a one-time 40K mile fluid and filter change, but later one, it was revised again to be every 40K miles. The service manual for my MY2007 CLK stated once at 40K miles. My MY2011 manual states every 40K miles.

Depending on your transmission type, 5 or 7 speed, designated number, you will have to use specific oil.

There are whole kits available on Ebay, including filters, seal ring, oil, gasket, etc.

I do an oil change on my cars transmission every 40K miles.
