SL/R230: Steering Wheel Adjust-No Up/Down

Steering Wheel Adjust-No Up/Down
Telescopic function works fine, but up and down does not-not even a click. Recently purchased ‘06 SL500 with 57k miles. No codes. Previous owner may have used as a grab bar to exit. Any suggestions?

I think this is fairly common and as you suspect is most likely the result of downward pressure on the wheel when getting out of the car. It happens now and then on my R231.
A good smack on the rim of the wheel with the palm of your hand is often enough to put things back where they belong. Try the top and if that doesn't work, the side.
The last time it happened to me it took several increasingly strong smacks and then things went back to normal. At that point I turned off the convenience retract feature and stopped using the wheel as a lever to help me out. Bad habit I know, but age and a cycling accident mean I'm not as agile as I used to be :-)

Never mind. Just found it in the menu. At the same time, found another imperfection on my recent acquisition: Plastic trim on the side of the seat where the lower cushion expands was cracked in half. Super glue gel to the rescue.
