Days are getting shorter and shorter here. The time has come to slowly think about parking the car. I’m definitely not driving it in the snow.
There are few options;
1. Keep my daily outside so the SL can occupy its spot in the garage.
2. Find the appropriate storage (Can be expensive)
3. Put it on my buddy’s lift. I’m not so sure of this option though. Is the two post lift save for the convertible storage? Body flex and all this.
I'd go option 3 and put the rear battery on a tender. The chassis will have no issue with a 2 post lift and 4 support points.
I lived in Denver and did something similar every winter. Same with Washington, where it rains 75% of the winter days.

Thanks.
I heard some 911 cabriole owners complain about panel misalignment after prolonged storage on the 2 post hoist.
Anyone else storing the SL on the hoist?
Hi,
This is my first post. I have a 2007 SL550. I asked a mechanic at the dealership near me about a trickle charger. He said there might be an "interrupter" that would prevent both batteries being charged and that I needed to put a Battery Tender on each battery. It doesn't sound right to me! Do I need one charger or two?
Thanks,
Brian Murphy
Just fully charge the front battery and don’t worry about it as it only supports the starter and doesn’t drain much in storage. The rear, consumer, battery needs a battery tender. The battery systems are totally separate.
Put the rear battery on a maintainer (I use CTEK), fill up the tank, put in the requisite Sta-Bil, throw a couple of fabric softener dryer sheets on the floor, put a couple of rags in the exhaust pipes if you have mice, cover it, and say nighty-night.
Thanks for the replies. I live in MI. It would definitely be away for the winter, but I have a place in FL where it will mostly be stored but still driven probably 6 weeks this winter. I've always used Battery Tenders.
.I take the batteries out of my MGs, Alfas, etc and put them in the heated part of my barn on the chargers all winter. I feel the batteries last longer that way. Is there any reason not to trickle charge the starting battery?
Brian
What does the dryer sheets do? I also live in the country and mice are an issue. I use the newer sticky traps and put a decon square stuck in the middle, works every time. If mice get into your wiring you’ll wish they nested in your exhaust.
Dryer sheets absorb odors. Please, please do NOT use sticky/glue traps. They are especially cruel by prolonging suffering. Snap traps are a more humane alternative. Thanks.

I appreciate the input.
Option 1 is what I'm doing for winter storage. A thorough wash & wax and tucking her away.
Has anyone used one of these? I remember some guys on an AC Cobra replica forum were buying them, but I never heard if they liked them. It seems that it would protect against the mice and such.
I just put my 67 Alfa duetto in one in MI. If you are doing it by yourself, you need some kind of cover on the car, even if it's only some old blankets or sheets. The instructions tell you the capsule may scratch the paint if you don't. You drive onto the base, cover the car, pull the clear capsule over it, zip it up(you need to be able to walk all the way around the car), put the fan in and watch it inflate. I would say it took 10-15 minutes all together. The fan will hum all winter, probably driving the mice crazy, but I don't think they'll be able to get in anyway. So far, I'm quite pleased
. The Alfa used the 14 foot one, it cost about 450.00.
Brian
I use the car capsule for my SL600. 16 foot long and it is a great storage solution.
Do they have a feature to allow a power cord to pass through, so a trickle charger can be used? I vaguely recall that I had read something about this, but couldn't find any mention on their website.

Yes. The fan Velcro’s to the bottom part of the front and you can snake cable(s) through there. I use a CTek charger and it works great

As a further alternative that I've used, you could visit your local hardware store for a catch-and-release trap. Then just relocate them to another area without harm.
