For one thing, the 12V socket has its leads connected to it with a small plug. That plug might be loose or not pushed in all the way.

Hi Narday, So, you are starting to dig into your new car.. seems we are all doing that and enjoying it. I can't call myself an expert, by just following logic and reading a lot that others have to offer here. In your case, the first thing you need to check of course is if the 12V socket is under power at all, with the ignition on. Try anything simple, like a phone charger or so. When never used, the metal bus and central contact may need cleaning (don't short them, or you'll blow a fuse at least). I rerouted that socket in my car, directly onto the rear battery (fused, of course), and I use it for my trickle charger. I find that I have to push the plug in really well for the charger to make proper contact. Does yours still have the flap on it?
Speaking of trickle charger - you'll need one if the car is left unused for a few days or longer. The rear battery is under constant draw and you'll get dash messages about systems being switched off untill your engine has replenished power to that battery. Some of those systems are a pain not to have, in a hot or steamed up car.
