TPMS SENSORS

How long do mb tpms sensors typically last. And do replacements have to be OE mb or can aftermarket sensors be programmed to work?

At least on 2003 no programming is required - there are four separate antennae, each communicating with only one sensor. Just make sure that sensors operate at correct frequency. I bought mine on e-bay.

So how do you know what frequency they use?

I somehow have the notion they last about five years.

The operating frequency you need is 315 MHz. I bought
these these
a few months ago, but have not installed them.

It appears that in in later years they switch to 475MHz.

I'm sure you are right, Alex. I had the notion the O.P. has an '03 car.

Search internet for MBZ P/N or by description. This is reliable source, but not necessarily the cheapest.

P.S. It is 433 MHz. I was slightly off.

Reconditioned...presumably includes new batteries but I would confirm. My 11 SL has its original tpms sensors...still working. Discussed with my tire guy recently when I replaced all four tires. Just decided since originals are still working would simply leave them in...if one or more stops working I'll deal with it then. Not exactly a critical item (although the tpms dash error would annoy me. My wife's finally stopped working...error message never bothered her. It's an 08 CLK. A backup car now for our second home...love that CLK).

I just replaced my original MB TPMS sensors (date code 2006) when replacing tires. The original TPMS still reported good battery but I'm thinking the low mileage (60K) helped them last longer than their expected life. I put in new VDO Redi-Sensors with no problems.
