Summer Prep

Help!!! I heard a noise in my front right wheel. Since There had been some issues with the length of the lugs, so I removed one that was longer than the others and thought the problem was solved. The next day the right front was sitting on my tire. A mechanic came to the house and said the strut needed to be replaced. I did that, took it for a test drive and it appeared to be okay. Two days later it was back in the same condition. The mechanic was convinced that I had received a bad strut. They sent me another one.I put it on same issue. In the meantime while waiting to replace the strut the battery went dead. Once I started the car it started adjusting the level and making what sounded like grinding noises in the rear when I backed up and the right front was still making the grinding sound when I tried to drive forward. Could the battery going dead be a part of the final situation?

The car is an 04 SL 600 v12 with 74,000 miles.

Battery has nothing to do with it.

You need a new mechanic, one familiar with ABC. Set aside an hour or so and read this.

No clue what grinding noises you are getting, maybe he screwed something up when replacing the strut. Might be best to have it flat-bedded to a reputable mercedes shop.

Sagging without any visible fluid leaks means you have a valve block problem.

In regards to any banging/grinding noises, you or a qualified mechanic need to get the car up on a lift and look around.

Personally, I would not drive it if it’s making noises.

Thanks, I also noticed that the tire on that side is damaged on the inside . It looks like it's been pressed in, in certain areas creating a pattern of lumps and indentations on the tire.

I am going to follow your advice about the valve block. The article also mentions that after the strut is replaced you have to take extra steps to fill it with fluid and bleed the air out. Can you direct me to a video/information on how to accomplish this?

You need to run a rodeo, two times 15 minutes apart. You either need a SDS tool and software of your own or you need to take it to a shop that has one.

Replace the ABC filter afterwards.

If this doesn’t fix it, rebuild the valve block.
