Center armrest wiring question

Just purchased a used center armrest in the proper color for my car to repair the little piece that breaks off in the latch. Started taking my old one out when I discovered several differences in the wiring. Next idea, change just the top and tray that contains the broken latch. I can see how to do this but was wondering what would happen if I simply cut the two wires going into the middle tray that I assume were for the phone system (obsolete now). Would I have troubles with notifications on the dash or with the locking or alarm system?

Yielding to the board's gurus on this, I would be reluctant to "cut wires" Given so many 'closed loop" electronics circuits on these cars, you conceivably could cause more faults. (on CANBUS etc.). See another very recent post from pmercury with pictures on how to replace box latch.
