Parktronic or not?

I did not initially order Parktronic because I wasn't too thrilled with the little buttons that detract from the smooth lines on the bumpers. Someone also suggested that a visual rear view system might be something one could add to the Command system as a more desirable alternative.

Now I'm having second thoughts on whether I should add Parktronic. Anyone else sharing this dilemna or have thoughts/suggestions? Would especially like to hear from any current SL owners who have the option and what their experience has been?

I do like parktronic , it looks good, much better than it did when first introduced on MBs.

The New SL has a long hood and you can sit low in the car it helps out alot to see the front right of the SL. Also great for backing up.

The only two reasons not to get parktronic are Price & if you can not live with the sensors on the bumber covers.

No one has made any comments on the sensors, just how great the new SL looks!

Unhappy

I personally think Parktonic is great, especially the four indicators inside the vehicle, showing you how close you are to the front and rear object. It's kinda neat I think, but it cost..........

Thanks

Thanks for the input and responses. You convinced me to add the option and I just got confirmation that it has been included.

Since ordering Parktronic I ran into a 2003 SL500 driver at a dealership north of Chicago who verified as well that the option was well worth it.

(He also confirmed to me that he found distronic less useful to the point that even though he had it on his prior Mercedes he found that he only really used it once in the fog and opted not to have it included on his 2003 SL when he put in the order last December. By the way his "other car" was a BMW Z8, but he couldn't say enough about the virtues of the 03 SL 500 including its vastly improved Command system.)

Parktronic vs. distronic

Mark Norton....I agree with you on the distronic thing, but I don't think that was the question.

I have the Parktronic only on my CL. My dumb*** dealer talked me out of it on the Porsche and M5 (the Z8 doesn't have it). I can park my CL in the tightest garage without any trouble. I just fold in the mirrors and park. One time I was backing out of the garage, and two kids fell of their skateboard right behind me. I couldn't see them, but the beeping went wild. Just for that, it was worth it.

From henceforth, I only order cars with the Park distance control.
