Waiting for pick up

Hi all other owners

Just saying Hi here after buying my 2011 SL63 with 15K miles on it. White exterior (with matte grey vinyl wrap) and red interior
checked the VIN, its one of the later models and numbers so should be post head bolt issue range for the M156

can't wait to pick it up tomorrow and give it a drive (although there probably an't much good road for me to drive it in Hong Kong)

would appreciate any tips on owning and driving it (other than maintenance cost warnings, i dived into the car knowing about this)

thanks!

I hope you'll post some pics, 'cause I'd genuinely like to see that.

You're likely to save a lot of money if you perform your own maintenance and basic repairs. As my signature states, you really need to have an advanced diagnostic tool. Most people purchase a clone of Mercedes' proprietary Star Diagnosis System. Two forum members recently purchased this and have voiced no complaints.

thanks for the tips, i could probably handle the basic repair stuff with all the forum posts here, but the more complicated stuff dealing with the computer and all i'd prob leave it for the experts to do

the one thing i am personally most concerned about is roof leaks, it's a 9 yr old car after all, seals could be too old to hold their roles
hope i didn't jinx it just now

That color combination looks terrific.

I've been around here for many years, and yet I can not recall an owner having an issue with water leaking into the cabin. (Though water leaking into the trunk has been reported.)

With roof leaks (as In separate from trunk/boot leaks), the majority I’ve read about and the actual one I experienced, were all caused by blocked drains rather than old seals. Blocked drains are quite easy to fix so I wouldn’t worry about that too much. Do a bit of research into treating the rubber seals with “gummi fledge”. If they are worn this will have a good chance of totally restoring them. My car has suffered from boot leaks which stopped after I cleaned all the seals out and treated with gummi fledge and also a roof leak into the cabin which was sorted by cleaning out a blocked drain tube.
