Hello everyone, I was hoping that one of you guys might be able to be help shed some light on a problem i'm having with my 08 SL 550. I recently got a dash message saying that my left license lamp was out, so I changed the bulb with a sylvania 5w 6418 bulb; It fixed the lamp being out and I thought all was good. unfortunately the message was still active when I started the car the next day, the issue i'm having is the light bulb works, both lamps are on when the trunk is raised, but the left lamp goes out when the trunk closes? Only the left lamp goes out when I close the trunk, I know that i'm missing something so I thought I'd ask the community for guidance. Thanks.

I'd swap bulbs and see if the problem moves with the bulb.

Also, when the trunk lid closes and the bulb goes out, if you get a message in the cluster this would indicate that that the faulty-bulb detection circuit is the cause.

Hey Bob, I probably should had mentioned that I did swap the bulbs back and forth between the left and right lamp housing and both bulbs and lamps did light up. I'll definitely be checking out that circuit this weekend.

Thanks again for the guidance, I'm sure its saved me a good amount of troubleshooting.
