SL/R230: whine, left front on strut extension

whine, left front on strut extension
08 SL550 83k miles. No messages, just sounds like a cat when strut extends. Also, often makes the noise at start up. I do not have star, hoping the description will pinpoint issue...

I too guess it's the pulsation damper generally because I don't know what else it could be. A faulty damper will also whine with the engine running somewhere between 2000 and 3000 RPMs.

I agree with the previous two. Had the same sound as far as I can remember when mine was going bad. The dampener on 07+ models sits on the pump. As Bob said, you would hear it in the 2k - 3k RPM range (That's how mine was exactly).
