DAS won't communicate with ECU
I recently got a Star system off of ebay. Still have an issue with Xentry, but the standalone DAS appears to be working fine. My issue is that I cannot communicate with the ECU (EM-SFI). I have no problem with other components on that CAN-BUS (TCU, ESM, etc) or any other controllers as far as I can tell. I'm certain that the ECU has to be communication on the CAN-BUS in order for the car to start and drive, so why can't I connect to it? I don't know if this could be an issue with my Star system, or something is wrong on the vehicle, any suggestions?

The engine won't start unless it can communicate on the high-speed CAN. However, DAS communicates to the engine ECU via a "K-Line" connection/protocol and not DAS. Apart from inspecting the OBD-II connector for corrosion and checking the unlikely possibility of a broken wire via a continuity check, I can't think of anything to try.

I checked the voltage at Pin 7 (k-line) on the diagnostic connector and it tests OK. I suspect that I have a problem with my test hardware, probably a bad cable. My OBDII dongle and app are able to show ECU information, but I don't know if it uses K-line or CAN. I'm not an OBD expert, but it looks like the OBDII standard supports both protocols.

Just to close out this thread, I finally found the problem. On my diagnostic connector, the pin 7 contact is recessed further than it should be. If I totally bottom out the connector, I have communication with the engine ECU. The mounting for the OBD socket is flimsy, so you have to work a bit to get it fully seated.
