Headlight wires

I swapped out the inner most yellow looking light bulbs on the headlights with leds. These are the lights that turn on with the parking light selection. The sheathing on the wires was good when I went in, but after changing the bulb...there is now alot of bare wire! Is this common?

I had the same problem with my 2009 SLK. The insulation just crumbled and fell off !! Seems like MB went overboard on "green" materials for the insulation during that period.
Haven't seen anything on my present 2007 SL but haven't worked on much wiring yet.

The strange thing....i have four headlights, two are original to the car, and two are from California.... they all have the sheathing coming off after touching it.
