Home Link programming made easy

Button #1 under my rear view mirror opens and closes my garage door. I recall spending a lot of time two years ago, trying to transfer the code from a hand transmitter into ‘the mirror’. So did others on US, UK and German forums. Some folks say they were successful only after putting a new battery in their transmitter.
Today I decided I want to start using #2 to start a timer, igniting the full garage lighting (I drive in backwards, so a clear sight is a bonus). #3 will cut the timer short.
I didn’t want to go through the same pita process of rtfm and endless fails. So I used logic instead. After I had managed to program #2, button #3 was done in 15 seconds.

So here’s the deal, at least in my Euro car. Press the button. The led flashes quickly. Hold until the led becomes steady (perhaps cycling through flashing quickly and steady again) and finally flashes slowly. Now your home link is ready to learn a code, with you still holding that button. Now press the transmitter button and the led will almost immediately acknowledge you’re done. Worked for me on both buttons.
The instruction in the manual is quite different, probably leading to a lot of frustration.

You may have to downgrade your garage receiver to be able to pair it with the car’s opener. The area code in ‘the mirror’ must be correct and you’d best erase redundant codes that someone may have left in there. All that is in the manual and in forums.

I was bored yesterday enough and tried to finally set up my car' buttons to open the garage. And the instructions from the manual actually worked quite well, because they matched 100% my garage door instructions for Homelink system + rolling code. Made it work from the 2nd try But now my garage door opener glitched so i have to buy a new one, lol.... Then reprogram everything again

1. I erased the codes from the mirror - two outer buttons hold for 20 secs but no more than 30 secs.

2. I pressed the desired button under the mirror + the garage door remote same time until the light started blinking fast

3. I enabled "Programming mode" on my garage door opener

4. I pressed the mirror door about 3-4 times again for about 2-3 secs each time. When i was pressing i was waiting for the light to switch from flashing to solid. on the 3rd or 4th try the garage door started rolling - i was done

The funny part is that we both have 2005 year model but due to different garage door openers we had to program differently.
Also when i watched videos on internet about programming mirrors, i've noticed that although they all look the same (and even matched the model year of my car) i never got the green light while pressing any sequence / button and it was programmed differently.

So bottom line for someone else trying to program his garage door opener buttons on the mirror: you might need to try several different ways and / or several times until you'll get it right
Regards.
