Haha, yep it’s awesome.

Two things that caught me off guard:

1) When you raise the top, the back windows ALWAYS go up, even if you use the top up with windows down function. Mods4Cars confirmed this was normal.

2) The one touch all windows up/down with the roof switch works like this: double click the roof switch like a computer mouse and all windows go down, pull double click on the switch and all windows go up.

I don't drive the car that often so I usually forget the sequence for the top and windows. My favorite is being able to control the top with my key FOB

Yes, thanks, looking forward to it all, especially spring! I'm not that excited about splicing those 3M clamps into the wiring, cutting and plugging seems the more solid way to go.

Remind me what this does again? The stock keyfob opens and closes the top with a push of the button

Was it to do it in motion?

The stock keyfob only lowers the top if you have it practically touching the infrared sensor on the door handle. This module allows you to do this via RF from a distance.

It also lets you raise/lower the the top while the car is moving, put all four windows up/down with a few taps of the roof switch, allows the roof to be raised/lowered without keeping the roof switch pressed/pulled the whole time and puts all of the windows down when the top is lowered.

mine does not let me do this! Even with the smarttop module I have to wait...is there a secret you know of that I do not?

Hmmm I did not expect the manuals (plural) to be that un-straightforward. On their site, mods4cars adresses a problem that folks have had like this:

"Problem:
Even after trying all connectors the LED on the module still only lights up solid, none of the plugs produces a blinking LED.
Possible Cause:
The most common cause is reversed polarity on one of the CAN plugs. Unfortunately the polarity is different between SL and CLK/SLK, so the wiring harness can not be shipped pre-assembled.
Make sure the wires are inserted into the plugs correctly: Red wire in slot 1 and black wire on slot 2 (SLK and CLK). Red wire in slot 2 and black wire in slot 1 (SL).
The slot numbers are embossed on the backs of the plugs. Use good lighting and, if necessary, a magnifying glass."

All that implies that the photos in the instructions show wrong polarity for our SL's. Did you guys indeed connect the plugs contrary to what the illustrations indicate?
Thanks!

I followed the instructions and it worked right out of the box--I do recall the polarity uncertainty but apparently I lucked out. The pictures were adequate as well.

Got the module installed, all fine. It wasn’t exactly a plug and play experience, though. The wiring in there is way too short and tight, for me to work on without removing the side panel. But it’s a holiday and the weather stinks, so time wasn’t the issue. Jamming the +12V lead in the plug and securing it with a tie wrap is a good idea, bobterry99. Of course I first soldered the wire and it got firmly stuck at the first try. Thanks for the response folks.

Oh, and the illustrations in the manual do indeed show the strand colors in the plugs reversed, when you install the module in an R230.

Maybe there’s some differences between models/regions/years but on my 2005 US spec SL65, everything matched the instructions from what I can remember.

SL 55 and a GT 3000 vr4 Here's my car: http://home.online.no/~ludvs/index.cfm
The top should NOT be lowered or raised while in motion due to the metal roof, on cars with fabric that's another matter because of the weight.
