2008 SL550 Loud Whining and Shifting Problems
Just bought a 2008 SL550 a couple of months ago. I started hearing a loud whining along with a raddle after driving for about 20 minutes or so. I then noticed that when the noise started I was usually going 80mphs or so and noticed if I would accelerate it would barely increase speed. It seems as though it is not shifting, and from what I ready, thought maybe it was going into limp mode. However, the dealer tells me limp mode would put the car into 2nd or 3rd gear, I think I am stuck in 4th or 5th gear. Even when a slow down the loud whining is still there, I can park the car and keep it running and the noise continues. The noise sounds like it is coming from under the middle of the car, not the engine bay. If I just off and restart after a bit it usually stops but not always but then returns right away at any speed. The dealer found that the ABC pump is leaking and needs to be replaced ASAP. However, they really don't know if this is related or not. There are NO warning lights or codes showing up.
So my questions, can a bad ABC pump cause shifting and a noise as described?

My whine started intermittently , then got worse. Started to rev when braking , would not go over 80 mph . Seemed like limp mode. replaced damper , now runs like new. when I went to remove it I found it loose.
