Auxillary Oil Cooler for P30 Cars

I was installing my Weistec dual pass heat exchanger last week and wanted to share one of the cool things found on P30 Performance Package cars. The 2nd cooler is parallel to the tiny OEM cooler. I estimate is holds about a pint or two of oil when it's not circulating it. Nice large fan, trick cone and of course the grill/vent off he right side bumper. The secondary air injection pump is usually in this cavity of the engine. On P30 cars its located on the driver's side in front of the valve block. I removed the blocking plate off the driver's side vent to make it functional - venting warm air? Maybe it has an aerodynamic effect?

The oil cooler looks pretty amazing and love knowing my engine is getting a benefit of cooler oil temps during spirited driving. Does the cooler help with performance and reliability is a question I get asked all the time. I wouldn't know but, I do know heat is the enemy of any engine and helping it run cool can only be a good thing right? If anyone has any information to known benefits please do share. I don't track the car but I do monthly 600 mile round trips to Arizona ( At autobahn speeds when there are no other cars for miles and miles) The temperature gauge never moves (Just a little pass 80C even in 110F desert heat.

The Weistec dual pass HE was worth the higher price than the PLM unit because of the ease of installation. I didn't have to hack or cut anything to make it fit perfectly. The mounting tabs (and ends of the HE) are curved to match the curve of the bumper. The only thing I don't like is it's shorter size and not covering the entire opening of the bumper. I guess I'm just used to seeing other SL's with bigger - longer HE's. It worked as advertised. Even with my mods, several full boost runs did not shut down the SC. I did about 6 hard pulls without SC raising the white flag. Recovery times also cut in half! I'm running just the updated Bosch pump too.

Lower temps always help. I run a XL PLM on my E55 don't notice any difference but I also know it has to help. I have the Bosch 10 pump. My SL is a 500 so no blower to worry about.

Looks good.

Thanks. I like to call the supercharger a belt driven nuclear reactor! It produces so much heat. I can really benefit from fictional hood vents from the SL65 black series!

if you want it really cool and unleash all the power all time, consider Water/methanol instead of playing around with mini coolers
