Just checking to see if my system is working right. When I start the car it takes a long time - maybe 2 minutes, for the audio system to come on The command screen it lit but no audio. This happens on both radio and CD. It just won't play for about 2 minutes. Also when I shut off the engine the command screen stays lit but no audio continues again doesn't matter if the radio or the CD was playing when I shut down the car. Is this normal? If I want to listen to music with the engine off how do I do it?

My 2005 SL500 command system is pretty quick. Radio will come on before I get the car in gear. The aftermarket bluetooth can take longer, but it is still less than 30 seconds. Simply pressing the power button on command should turn it on if the key is off. It will auto shut off after 30min if the engine isn't on. I suggest trying a factory reset on the service menu. Sometimes the internal flash gets messed up and this clears it.

If you're really desperate and willing to possibly damage the unit there is an update CD available. It provides no useful features, takes a few away (clock setting), and has risk. I suggest it only if nothing else works. The update is W 220 589 05 22 00 for a 2005. PM me if interested.

 

Thanks for the info. I didn't think my system was working correctly. I will try the reset.

 

Just fyi: my 2005 Comand radio plays as soon as it is energized by its push button or the key. No delay at all. (Should you ever want to do an internet search on the system: Comand, with single m).
