load assist problem opens with trunk

Hi all I'm new 2009 SL 550 AMG package

When the roof is in the down, stored, position and I open the trunk, the load assits moves the roof up on its own causing the trunk flaps to hit the folded roof partitions.

I'm not sure why the assist moves the roof automatically? I thought you had to push the red button ?

The flaps hit but I can push the trunk up further and they clear but then the trunk won't close automatically until I pull the trunk down again and stop the red light from flashing

It's very puzzling

I'm not sure if it's weak struts trunk opening height adjustment or a roof sequence reset ... but still, why does the roof tip up as I open the trunk ? isn't that supposed to be "manually" activated with the red button?

If the roof stayed down there would be not flap interference

Any ideas would be helpful !!

Thanks !!

2005 R 230 SL350 (M112 3.7). Sold the 1966 W113 230SL recently
[edited] Flap interference, as you call it, is a fault by itself. The flaps should be sitting tight against the trunk lid and when they don’t their micro switches should halt the roof opening sequence (i.e. not close the trunk lid). There’s a similar function of a switch that confirms the proper opening of the trunk lid.
Why the easy load comes up by itself I can’t tell. On my 2005 it is controlled by the red button. Perhaps the 2009 does it by itself by design.

Good morning, The flaps are tight when folded , the new updated parts were installed to solve that, My problem is, once the top is down, the trunk flaps are out and the roof functions, but as I open the trunk the load assist brings the roof up as the trunk opens so the folding flat partitions hit the flaps as the trunk opens.

I think this would be avoided if the load assist didnt open automatically at the same time as the trunk or the trunk needs to open higher so the flaps don't clip the other panels.

So I need to figure out how to stop the load assist from operating when the trunk opens and /or how to get the trunk to open that extra inch or so.

The more I watch this happen the more I beleive the trunk needs to open higher so I need to find and figure out how to reset the trunk open limit switch I guess?
as well as solve why the load assist always lifts the roof on its own.

Any help or ideas are appreciated

Thanks !

I'm assuming that you have the power trunk lid. Does the load assist raise and lower like it should with the button?

Hi Mike , Yes power trunk ,which works, but when I open the trunk yhe easy load moves the roof, I don't use the button.

The biggest issue is the trunk doent go high enough ( to the stops) I'm thinking there might be a problem with the lid position sensor B24/16.
If the trunk opened that extra 3/4" (20mm) everything would be fine But the easy load still operates automtically I don't push the button to activate easy load

perplexing. I'm going to get it scanned within the next week.

I really need to adjust the trunk opening height

Thanks !
