Jackhammer under hood?
I have a 2004 SL 500 with 60 k on it. I am the second owner of a garage kept car in perfect condition. I replaced the hydraulic suspension with Strutmaster coil overs, kept the power steering pump. I've had it for a couple of years. In the process of changing the Vario roof cylinders.
About a year ago it started making the rattle. It's been to two different mechanics with no luck. One was a certified Mercedes mechanic. The rattle makes a DA DA DA DA DA sound for a few seconds and stops. Sometimes louder that other times. Sounds like a small jackhammer. Replaced all 3 mounts a couple of mouths ago but the rattle is back. A/C on-off has no effect. When I can catch it and raise the rpm the frencquency increases with the rpm and stops at 800 rpm. Sounds like something is hitting something and I worry about it rubbing a hole. Car idles at 550 rpm.
Can I increase the idle by turning the adjustment screw counter clockwise on the idle control valve?
Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
