SL/R230: License Plate Lamp Holder

I am trying to replace the license plate lamp holders on my 2003 SL55 AMG. The procedure in the WIS is not working out to well.... or I am doing something wrong. Have removed the 2 8mm nuts it refers to.. but, nothing will come out.
I have the truck liners out and the flap motor hanging there. I appear the plastic piece is wrapped behind the panel where the license plate is secured.
Can anyone help??
Thanks
Mark

I figured out how to get everything apart and back together so the repair could be done correctly.
My hope was I would find someone that had done. Was not looking for light bulb advise.
Once I looked it up in the WIS (AR88.50-P-5080R) correctly, was a simple process. Took about 15 minutes.... out and back in.
I would tell folks that putting in LED bulbs can lead to problems. System in 2003 was not designed for it. Will it always cause problems???? Who knows!
I strive to keep the car as original as possible. Makes the troubleshooting process a lot easier when thing go south.
Just my 2 cents

As for LED's not being suitable for an SL that is a little bit of a backwards comment. LED's are the standard now in most cars and in fact the SL R230 has an LED middle brake light and back lights. The LED is fair more resilient than the old fashioned filament bulbs, yes they use a fraction of the current therefore Ohms law will tell the car that the bulb has blown and give you an error message, however modern replacement LED's all have resistors or a ballast designed into them to bring the current draw, back to the old fashioned filament ampere rating, moreover the error light on your dash will not show.
As for my rear licence plate LED's, I have had them for 3 years and never gave any issues the 'Kelvin' (colour) can be bought to whatever brightness you prefer, for low end old fashioned yellow filament bulbs then a lower Kelvin of 2700K will provide this, for whiter Kelvins then 6000K is best.
