Changing Climate controls

Hi all
My climate control is acting up. The knob in the middle that controls fan speed is loose and fan turns on and off even if I don touch it.

If I replace it what partnumber do I need and is this a simple job not requering Star SDS diagnostics?
have a R230 SL 350 2004

Regards
Andy

You shouldn't have to worry about coding, on an '04 the climate control parameters are stored in the CGW (central gateway) module, not in the AAC module. However, the control does need to learn all of the flap motor positions and the potentiometer for the center/side vent control. Sometimes normalizations can be done without DAS (like seats and windows), but I'm not sure about these.

I would need your VIN to be certain.

HOLD ON BRO.. dont buy a new switch just yet,! behind that switch there is a ribbon cable, and contacts to it. I had the same issue and fixed it for the last 4 years with one squirt of WD40 (or a contact cleaner)
You will probably find the contacts just need a clean, try spraying around the edges with WD40 and turn the knob a few times, then see if the random on off and speed changes fix themselves.

Do you mean spraying in/around the round button, without dismantling the thing? No cleaning needed in there afterwards?

Works like a charm for me! No dismantling needed, a few short sprays around the knob, a few turns and Presto. Thanks!
