SL/R230: 2009 SL550 - HELP NEEDED
I own a 2009 SL550 with 57k miles on it. I was driving my car and about to get on the freeway when my engine shut down. I was able to pull into a parking lot before entering oncoming freeway traffic. I had the car towed home to run diagnostics using an OBD reader.
The following fault codes were registered on the OBD reader:
U110B- Lost Engine Coolant Message - https://www.autocodes.com/u110b.html
U0100 - Lost Communication With ECM/PCM - https://www.obd-codes.com/u0100
Symptoms:
- Ignition won’t turn over
- The radiator fan comes on at full blast (same as before the engine shut down). The ECM seems to remember its last status.
Has anyone encountered a similar situation and can offer on what to do to diagnose? I’d like to see if anything can be done before I have to take it into the dealership for repair.
Thank you all
Sean

One typical problem of the R230 722.6 five gear box is engine oil creeping into the external TCM via the electric cable connection. Sometimes the damage can be undone by thoroughly cleaning the TCM's internals (and replacing the leaking connector & cable).
If you have a seven gear tranny, the TCM lurks inside the gear box itself and something else is causing trouble in the canbus.
