SL 600

Hello, I am brand new to Mercedes and I am looking for specs about an SL600, the one I'm looking at is black with a wood and black leather interior, and only 40k miles. How much do you think would be a good price to buy it and where can I find its full specs, brochures, just in general more info. Thank you

If it is an R230 (2003MY + in the US), a broad price range would be $20-30k. A car needing work or with a salvage title might bring less, a showroom condition, fully optioned one, might bring a bit more. All R230's are high maintenance and the V-12 is at the high end of that. If you don't do any work yourself, you need to budget at least $2-3k a year for shop bills. Especially with the V-12, you need to have someone who knows the car do a pre purchase inspection. For example, motor mounts are a common failure and require engine removal to replace. They are fun cars, are reasonably priced compared to the original sticker, but can be expensive to own. Make sure that you do your research before you jump in.

I've yet to see a SL600 model for 20k... I guess the market changed. But I wouldn't even consider buying one on the cheap end of the market, usually those are the ones neglected / high mileage / with issues.

The price is somewhat irrelevant.

Whats the maintenance history? How old are the coil packs? Has the ABC system been inspected? Does the trunk leak?

This is not only a 15 year old German car, it is also one of the most complicated vehicles ever produced.

Sivikvtec,

it is indeed most of the time irrelevant, but you won't see often a greatly maintained car for half of market price But maintenance stays #1 priority.
