Introduction with question at the end
I am a lifelong car enthusiasts in my early 50s and purchased my first Mercedes-Benz about 5 weeks ago. Was at the Barrett-Jackson auction selling my MGB and saw a beautiful black R230 and decided to give it a chance. So far I have been enjoying the car and learning as much as I can about care and maintenance. I find myself staring at the car while it sits in my garage because the styling has a beautiful elegance that appeals to me. The technology on thos 2003 model seems very advanced for the time. Impressive ride and handling as well as luxury comfort. So far I have had to replace the trunk battery and tighten the passenger window regulator hardware (windows rattled when closing the door). Upcoming fixes are likely to be the center header lock cylinder and possibly a flush of the ABC system. Undecided if I will upgrade the Command head unit or leave as is. Currently works just fine.
I am very familiar with domestic brands and somewhat familiar with British models but have much to learn about Bavarian makes. I know some members here have access to the dealership workshop manual. If you have a VIN, are you able to access the dealership service history? I know I can see everything in the Ford system but not sure if MB is the same.

The dealer can pull the service records, but they are not publicly available. It sounds like you will be doing at least some of the maintenance yourself. If so, invest in a Mercedes specific scan tool.

yes, I prefer to work on my car's when possible. i have a pretty good scan tool bit not the dealer specific one so if I feel like I may keep the vehicle for long term then I will certainly go that route.
