Igniter Replacement

Hi All,

Had the driver’s side low beam go out, this is a Bi-Xenon headlamp, so I do the normal thing of swapping bulbs, and the bulb is good.
So I order a new ballast and no joy with the new ballast, which I believe leaves the igniter as the only other component (outside of a failing SAM). Seems there is very little info on an Igniter R&R in both the R230 and SL55 forums.

I can see it at the bottom of the light assembly but I am unsure on how to get it out. Anyone got any links?

As always, appreciate any help.

I know it's been a while since you posted and I am having exact same issue, both with light and finding information on repair. Did you ever find anything better on how to access and replace the igniter?

mine ended up being a shorted wire. I had insulation that had fallen off in a part of the wire I couldn't see, even with a mirror....so I would recommend looking at those too.

Thank you, I will check that this weekend. I do have an igniter on the way and don't want to start until it is in hand. If I don't need it so much the better.

I ended up pulling my housings apart to redo the insulation and painted them in the process.

When you pulled them apart what did you use to seal them back up?

also, It almost looks in some pictures that there is an access panel on the bottom of the assembly approx where the igniter is. Is that what that square panel is or is it something totally different?

The factory butyl around them was fine for reattaching. I do not remember a square panel, I remember that being the ballast.

This will also give you a good idea of how bad my insulation was:

Might have to think about trying to do this a quick way and take the time to do it right. It makes sense to really clean and insure that the rest of the assembly is solid during the process to avoid chasing a similar problem in the future. Thank you again for the advice and the pictures. At least I do have the parts now and can proceed without waiting for a replacement.
