Front undercarriage element unknown!

At the rear of the undercarriage, near the attaching bolts is a hole of approximately 3/4" in diameter. I wonder what is the purpose of that hole. Perhaps an alignment feature for automated assembly?
I am surveying this area to place the supports of a E430 sway bar which mounts behind the undercarriage.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

Guys, I see the many views and no answers....I talked to a wise friend of mine at the local Mercedes Dealer Service Dpt. and he confirmed my suspicion....that hole and that extension on the underframe is used on the assembly line to properly align the subframe to the mounting screws threaded holes since it is a blind assembly. no structural or functional role..!
