That is strange since the key will mechanically move the door locks..! Does the key turn into the lock barrel? Try harder it should do unless you got the wrong key!
How about remotely? Does it work?

On the trunk you turn the key 90deg, then operate the handle. When you turn the key you hear nothing and feel nothing. It is pulling the handle that unlocks the trunk.

On the doors, the inside button should rise with the key. Key should turn 90deg.

Easy to check, as the key lock comes out very easy with single screw behind weather strip. You can then check lock barrel works, and then use a screwdriver into the door lock check the lock is working by rotating the cam.

There is a connecting bar between the key lock and the lock mechanism which can break, or not be located correctly.

Get key to work in both locks, because if you get locked out with a flat battery you will have to break in!!!!!

Do any of your other pneumatic functions work? Trunk soft close, fuel door lock, interior locking (glove box, console, rear cubbys), seat cushions? If not, you probably have a bad motor or rotor in the PSE pump.

Using the key in the lock bypasses all the pneumatic functions, so should always work.

I'm not sure if the OP was trying the mechanical key or just the fob, but if the inside buttons don't lock/unlock the doors, that is 100% the pneumatic function.

Sorry you are correct, it is not clear if it is a fob issue, or a key issue.

The button is mechanically linked to the mechanism, and will rise and fall as the key is turned, even without air.

If key works, then you are likely correct it is a vacuum issue

And if it is a vacuum issue chances are that the pump kaput since the rotor is just a plastic part. Mine had that rotor in pieces. The pump is under the hydraulic pump in the trunk. You can purchase replacement rotors and vanes on ebay. I just found a unit off a S-series in a junkyard for $20, and swapped the pump. Now works as it should.

S430 4matic same issue

Hi , just picked up a used BenZ with the same issue . The P.O. was assuming it was the key but after reading here it definitely sounds like a pneumatic issue as the dash and door trunk buttons don’t work from the inside and all doors and trunk are effected . The key blade does work in the door (driver button only) and trunk so at least I can lock and unlock .
My question is , as you mentioned about about an internal rotor in the trunk pump itself , did your pimp still sound like it was working (electric) but just not pushing air due to its internal issues ? Or was it just dead with no sound ? Mine definitely has power and comes on and goes off . Wether it’s pushing air is another question .
Thanks !

Ok, if you can hear the pump running there are 2 possible problems:
1.-The PSE pump rotor is broke-repair kits are sold over the internet to cure that.
2.-A bad leak on the tubbing. You will have to test every connection to detect where the leak is!

Chances are 90% to be the pump rotor!

Update

Hey thanks for the reply !
Found two great YouTube’s .
1) how to take out the pump
2) how to install a new rotor and get the 3 bars needed for correct pressure .
The latter vid mentioned continues blown fuse 20 amp f62 if the rotor is toast .
Mine does not blow so hopefully it’s just a cracked rotor not supplying enough psi .
I’ll update once I pull it apart and test for pressure.

Rotor Vane question !

Have the pump apart . The rotor looks fine and the vanes do not look like the vanes in the Yttube I found which seems highly on point . My vanes have a rounded side and an angled side . So wondering whoever tried to re-build it had put them in backwards ? The screws were also loose so there is no way it was getting 3 bars .
Any opinions if the angled blade side vs. the round edge side ???? I have now seen a completely different pic with the vanes angled side out . Anyone re- build this chime in to clarify which side goes out ?
Thanks !

Saw the same vid

Yes that’s the exact same vid I watched. However he says “”put the round side of the vanes out “ . And I’ve seen several other vids to put the angled side out which makes more sense as it follows the contour of the rotor. Maybe this an older style vane ? because it has no angled side .
So i’m guessing whoever re-built it used an updated part , and like I mentioned, did not adjust the torque screws to the correct pressure .
I’ve got it all back together and will test tomorrow with a gauge and post .
